Chiropractic for babies and children

Children are not small adults. For an infant the pressure used is roughly what you would use to test a ripe tomato.

Why parents come in

Common reasons

Feeding and side preference

Babies who strongly prefer feeding on one side, or who struggle to turn their head evenly.

After a difficult birth

Long labours, assisted deliveries and caesarean births can leave tension worth assessing.

Unsettled babies

Persistent discomfort and difficulty settling, once medical causes have been ruled out by your doctor.

Posture in school years

Screens, heavy bags and growth spurts. Habits corrected early are far easier than later.

Scoliosis screening

Assessment and ongoing management for spinal curvature during the growing years.

Sports and play injuries

Falls, sprains and the strains that come with active children.

How it works

What actually happens

  1. We assess before we treatEvery child is assessed first, and we will tell you plainly if your child does not need treatment.
  2. Pressure you can feel yourselfFor infants the force used is very light. We demonstrate it on your own arm so you know exactly what your child will feel.
  3. You stay with themParents remain in the room throughout. Nothing happens that you have not seen and agreed to.
  4. We refer when it is not usIf what we find belongs with your paediatrician or another doctor, we will say so.
★★★★★

“I initially brought my baby in due to feeding issues and a side preference issue, and I could see noticeable improvement after the sessions. Dr Xin Yi is very patient and gentle.”

Questions

Questions parents ask

Is chiropractic safe for babies?

Paediatric care is very different from adult care and uses very light pressure. Assessment always comes first, and we will tell you if your child does not need treatment.

How light is the pressure on an infant?

Roughly the pressure you would use to test a ripe tomato. We will demonstrate it on your hand before we begin.

Can I stay in the room?

Yes, always. Parents stay with their child for the whole visit.

My baby feeds on one side only, can you help?

That is one of the most common reasons parents come in. We assess how freely the neck and spine move, and we work alongside your doctor or lactation consultant rather than instead of them.

At what age can a child be seen?

There is no lower age limit for assessment. Newborns are seen regularly, most often after a difficult birth or for feeding and positioning concerns.
